Terror Extended

Recommended Posts

Transmission Resolvers are completed, now we will know everything. And on 30th of May first USO with all the data is spotted. Gill man escort USO for resource raid in the Caribbeans. Since it's resource raid it will have to land so we prepare. It took him a while to decide where to land, but he did land. Also SV, you're up but I forgot to pack you some armour. And since I'm not that bloodthisrty, you'll be staying in the sub just in case something horrible will decide to get you. Except this one time, that you were ordered to throw a grenade because everyone forgot how to shoot straight.

085.jpg

The team moved slowly ahead, few more aliens encountered. This is a small USO and we have super armour so things couldn't go wrong. Except when aliens got a super hiding spot and gets a flanking shot. Damn. How did we not spot him, or he did not shoot earlier.

086.jpg

Also I've heard Mr. Nook mumbling to himself "Lieutenant my ass"... when he saw EnKeyEff missing alien in the open, he took his pistol and sniped the alien across half of the map. The rest of the mission was just cleanup.

A new month comes. Everyone is extremely happy and we get massive bonus in cash. Except that our upkeep is so high that we land on negative. Cleaning some stores will restore the balance. And as with new month, new terror mission is activated. This time it's our first shipping route. We arrive at late dusk. It's almost night trawler mission. Sort of my very favorite type of mission.

088.jpg

Upon exiting the Triton, I've got a feeling that there might be sneaky alien behind the barrels. And I wasn't mistaken.

089.jpg

We've also seen the movement on the top of ships bridge. EnKeyEff tried to throw a grenade on the top, but couldn't find good angle. Instead he passed it to Mr. Nook who threw it on the deck below, where there are usually aliens hanging.

091.jpg

Now it's the time for slow walk and checking every possible room. The team splits into 4 squads. First squad goes to the room up west where barrels are blocking the path, Second goes through the middle door and there splits in two. The third uses the SE doors and the last team goes up on the higher deck. Everything was going smooth, but Mr. Nook here went a little too far.

092.jpg

Strangely the alien did not tried to waste him, don't know if deep one could even hurt soldier in mag ion armour. Slowly room by room, we kill all the aliens. It looks like they don't even put a fight in those tight rooms. That is until one super sneaky deep one tried to rape SV's arm. Lucky for him, he had armour this time.

093.jpg

Once the aliens have been removed from the top decks of the ship, we now move to the cargo hold and kill more aliens. First we have to sift through some containers. During the exploration we find 2 deep ones and kill them. Then team spreads to 3 squads. One goes on floor 1 to the engine room, other two squads will move to 3rd and 4th floor. When EnKeyEffs team was in the room with big elevator suddenly an alien zooms by, and while EnKeyEff didn't have clear visual on the alien he twitch fired and hit Henri in the back of the head. Good one EnKeyEff, fluffing point blank shot, stealing promotions and now team killing. You were this close for having a court-martial.

094.jpg

Rest of the ship extrapolation went pretty much perfect without any dangerous situations. Everyone performed top notch.

So we had our first shipping route done. It went almost flawlessly. Almost because someone was too trigger happy :P

On 14th of June, we've got 2 new USOs. One small for another resource raid in Caribbeans, and second a very small on infiltration mission. You can guess what happened to the very small, since we are now packing sonic oscillators. And of course once again we head to the landed USO. 50 zrbite is 50 zrbite. And again we are fighting against gill man. It's like the game already give up and throws only gill man on me.

The map contained a lot of ship wrecks. Sort of graveyard or something. It begun the usual way. Aliens were spotted and killed in the normal fashion, that is until one decided to be a douche and made a trap for out tank killing it without any mercy. Good thing that we are soon going to switch to Displacers.

Maybe if they would stop using gill man against me? It's June and I haven't seen any Lobsters around.

When they finally do show up it shouldn't be too much trouble since you already have armor and sonic cannons. The Tasoths on the other hand might give you some troubles, if they ever show up that is.

There has been some lobstermen as I saw them when viewing a past LOCDAT in your files. However, they should start showing up more often as June is a break point when the alien race selection moves to a new chart.

I know they are there, but it looks like they don't want to operate in North Atlantic. It looks like Gill men will be here dominant through the whole game. Strangely there is no activity in the Indian Ocean. Maybe when I will have full eyes on the Pacific.

On 16th of June, a very small USO has been detected on mission to find our base. After small chase Barracuda manages to destroy the USO. We also get our new Sonic Displacers. 2 for each squad base.

On 19th of June, we detect Medium USO - Gill Man piloted Hunter on Resource Raid mission. Guess they've got pissed from the previous missions and now they are sending the big boy. While Hunter wouldn't be a issue to Barracuda, the crew of this USO is equipped with heavy duty stuff. And that means things might get very dangerous. Not to mention it will be a night mission. So gear up.

The map for this mission will be very difficult. Lot's of terrain obstructions. Spotting aliens will be hard. Right from the exit we have found first alien with DPL. Following further East, we have found quite a bunch of gill man with more DPLs. Thankfully there wasn't any major screw up. But there were more aliens hiding. One almost killed our tank, but the DPL missed this close. Good thing that aliens don't know how to properly use DPLs.

098.jpg

Because of the missed opportunity, the tank found their hiding hole and killed two more Gill man with DPLs. As you see, there are a lot of DPLs. Even Dreadnought is not that horribly armed. Finally the way to the USO was clear so we could now storm it. But probably there are more aliens with DPL. So SV you take the point, we will be right behind you. The main stairway was guarded by only 1 alien, the others where hiding in the other rooms as usual. With careful advancement we've just butchered every alien that was spotted. When most aliens were dead, a one alien with DPL showed his face. Fortunately for us he didn't fire or else everyone of us would be dead.

With him, there were only two aliens reaming hiding in the side elevators.

099.jpg

A little dangerous, but we made it.

Not much, death all of us would be costly now.

After a hard mission (sort of hard). It's now for team 2 to get another run. On 21st of June, another small USO with Floating Base Attack mission has been detected and shot down near the arctic region. Upgraded with top notch equipment, they couldn't lose. Although it was a crash landing, there were lots of Gill men to kill. A small victory but a victory nonetheless.

Continuing on our alien hunt, on 23rd of June we got another Hunter on resource mission. At first it couldn't find Caribbeans, but quickly he adjusted his whereabouts. He also had a backup. I'm guessing that we will not be able to do two landed missions so a Barracuda will be launched to intercept the second one. We've also planted a base in North Pacific to have some eyes there.

The mission will is at night, so again it will be little scary, but we aren't scared that easily. Right SV? Now take a look at that dark corner and say what you see. As we exit the Triton, there were few Gill man waiting for us. Fortunately not with DPLs. One of them is hidden in this underground "bunker" so we couldn't get him out easily. Fortunately the DPL boys where too far away. The path to the USO was pretty empty, with occasional alien in the way. Unlike in previous encounter, this time, aliens decided to stay put inside the USO.

102.jpg

But as they say, every fortress can be captured. So we stormed by force. I also made a mistake that almost took a life of Grigory. Should have rotated first before ascending to the upper floor. But at least everything ended well.

So the second hunter. It first gave a little chase, but Barracuda manged to shot it down, so off we go to yet another Hunter. And Zombie is back.

Right as we exit there was already DPL gill man waiting to be killed. So I guess this time we again will have to dodge few panzerfausts of death. At first we sort of had aliens just waiting to be killed from sniping shots, but there was this alien hiding under this "bunker". He came out and just narrowly missed most of us. Strangely he also had time to prime and throw a grenade. Aliens normally don't walk with primed grenades. Secondly I don't think that DPL aliens carry grenades too. There is something amiss there. At first I thought that there were two aliens, which sort of made me a little confused.

104.jpg

Because of that I've probably made a mistake and if I didn't take a look with the tank for two aliens I would probably spotted the other alien near the USO. He also did a double trick with grenade following with DPL. Unfortunately this time the DPL was accurate, and Tycho was blown up to smithereens and Tracey got serious wound.

105.jpg

There was also third DPL probably aimed at the tank, but it went too wide. With that double action I got a little nervous there when approaching USO. But managed to catch last remaining DPL alien without any more incidents.

That's the spirit.

We finally have our first new transport ship. It's not Leviathan, but it will have to do for now. The colonies will have to wait a little more. Need those DPL's and Shock guns operational before the attack.

On 28th of June we have another Gill man USO on Infiltration mission in North Atlantic. I guess they don't want those resources anymore. Anyway I know that those USOs land, but at this point my care for Zrbite is minimal. Upon arriving, the aliens were swarming the LZ. In every direction I've looked there where aliens. And strangely everyone was missing like amateurs. But again thanks to the armour we were fine. Specially Mr. Nook, who deflected 2 shots to the chest.

When the LZ was clear we could push forward. But even when you are slaughtering them, there will be this one sneaking somewhere and shoot you in the side. As I said again - armour saves, and I'll be with the nurses for quite a while (you see Mr. Nook, your wish was granted).

107.jpg

Also strange - there shouldn't be 18 aliens in the USO. Something is wrong here.

Not long after the last mission it's terror time, but first a word from our sponsors.

109.jpg

Thanks to the Hammerhead, we get there in the nick of time and still in daylight. This is the cruise ship mission, so take some extra rations, because it will be a long haul.

Right from the entrance, we save a gill man (yeah more gill man). Mr Nook showed him what's what and moved to spot a deep one lurking behind the sub and another one on the top decks. Another deep one was also spotted on another side of the ship on the top decks. He was presented with a grenade. The team splits in sort of 4 groups. Two will search the lower deck on both side and the other two will try to search through the upper deck and climb up later. The bad news for all the team is that aliens can be anywhere so all of the rooms will have to be checked and one thing that cruise ship doesn't lack is the number of rooms.

While exploring the upper deck, our commanding officer was hit in the arm, by a very well placed shot. She lost conciseness for now it is a race against time to save her. I've also forget to mention, that SV called dibs on the kitchen area, and he was persistent to go there alone. Let's just hope his greediness will get him killed ;)

110.jpg

Our eager ensign Franz was the first to reach front of the ship and instead of waiting for others he rushed up and was side shot by aliens patrolling upper deck. At least the others will know what to face there. Also why did Zombie not see the alien until he moved?

111.jpg

112.jpg

Anyway the clearing of the decks proceeded normally and SV was doing OK in the kitchen, grabbing all the food that was there he could grab. Also someone should fix that freezing room someday. The team felt pretty comfortable with the alien killing, that is until Jacqueline reached one of those rooms, where LoS is pretty wonky and got killed by a sneaky alien. Lisa who went after her to investigate the situation was almost killed too, but the alien was not lucky this time.

113.jpg

When the alien paid his price, we should be able to move to another deck, because soon after all of the rooms where investigated. But another bad thing in cruise ships is that if you have checked all the rooms, and there are more aliens you go nuts in trying to find the last one and probably will start to looking through all those rooms AGAIN. But fortunately this time it wasn't that case and the last aliens where found. Now it will be real room searching.

Welcome to the part 2 of the cruiser ship. 2 easy decks of engineering room and 2 decks loaded full on rooms. Despite that aliens are mostly on the first 2 decks, there might spawn few on the upper decks and you will have to search all of those damn rooms - you can start to cry now. We begin on the lowest deck and already there are few aliens waiting to be killed. And almost every where we went, there were even more aliens, at least on the first two decks. And as always there are those super sneaky aliens who wait till you pass.

114.jpg

The biggest "battle" we had was in this room, where aliens keep coming and coming. Poor Tycho had his hands full. But at least this will give him some battle experience.

115.jpg

The search for more aliens was damn long, but eventually we haunted them all.

Well that was long mission. The memories of the younger years. And look at all that money - if we ever had money issues. But before we were able to return to base, a USO was detected on mission to find our base. Only because the Hammerhead is fast it was able to get back home and intercept the USO. Since it's a small one, we will let the other team do the fighting. So what it will be night mission. They are all prepared.

The map was one of the rarest ones with crashed airplanes. And in this mission we learn that the wings are highly explosive. Good thing we have armour. Anyway the mission was pretty straight forward and if there were any sneaky aliens we out smarted them. Probably because of the tank.

I think it is a side-effect of my autoend mod. I believe it occurs when the last alien dies due to a grenade, since that happens after Xcom's turn is "over". I may need to put in an exception to run the autoend check only when it is during Xcom's turn.

I knew this would be the perfect place for you.

On 3rd of July we get another very small USO to search for our base, but no dice for them. 3 days later we detect a USO touched down in Caribbean colony. It's time for supply interception but at night. And the worst terrain possible at that.

On touch down, Nook exits the sub and gets shot by alien hiding in the darkness, but his armour deflects the damage. EnKeyEff flares the alien and Nook fires, slightly missing but the explosions sends the alien unconscious and bleeding. The rest moves out of the sub and flares the surrounding. The USO was just slightly to the east. Carefully moving we detect few aliens near the USO. Nook fires a torpedo at one of the aliens standing on the rock formation. Aiming for the head, the torpedo slightly touches to ceiling of the rocky formation and the alien just barely evaded the explosion. Grumbling something, Nook reloads.

119.jpg

We move forward to the USO, killing few more aliens on the way. Once near the doors, SV spots alien guarding them. He fires and hits the door instead. Next came EnKeyEff and he also hits the other doors. God damn is this some kind of competition "I bet you can't hit the door" ? A younger rookie had to show them how it is done. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

120.jpg

Now the hardest thing is to enter that USO. Because it's dark we can barely see what is inside and where are the aliens. But I bet they are hiding downstairs ready to throw that grenade and kill everyone. Or they can be also right there...

121.jpg

Fortunately they were poor shots. I've also seem to notice a DPL wielding alien. It's a miracle he didn't fire since they have a lock on our positions. Due to darkness and spotting ridiculousness, we couldn't find him that easily. I mean come on, it's not that EnKeyEff is blind or something? Or maybe he is how he missed two snapshots just few meters away from the alien. And Mr Nook there just evaded there one shot to the back and survived two more direct hits to the back. This guy is invincible (that also means he is a loony) . SV also had strange luck. First he was shot in the arm from the front, then alien moves point blank from the side and did not shoot and his friend hit's him instead of SV. I'm really commanding bunch of loonies here.

122.jpg

123.jpg

P.S. No nurses for you, you'll be ready in just few days, besides I'm the one who gets all the nurses now.

Look at it this way: Anyone can stuff up. However, it takes some skill to deliberately stuff up as badly as we have. wink.png
