Preferable Camera POV on tactical map

Hi Guys,

 

I am experimenting with different camera POV on military tactical map (it is for the in-game mechanics)

I was wondering what is your preferable point of view when you command&control units.

Have couple of example screenshots to share if you are intrested to give opinion.

It depends on what you're trying to accomplish. For strategy and tactical games many go with the good old blimp-view of the map. Or if you want the commander to view the world and control the battle as though they are part of the action, you'll have it through the eyes or over the shoulder of one of the characters, or behind the control of their vehicle.

 

Also how much freedom are you giving the player in how they manipulate the view? That is, can they tilt, zoom in, pan around? Is there anything you want to hide from the player such as not having a sky box or not having the backs or sides of some structures or landscapes?
