Warcasters, Prepare!

Battlegroups are being rallied. Almost a year after the first signs that battle would indeed one day be met, dev. house WhiteMoon Dreams recently reinforced the upcoming arrival of the squad-level strategy game WARMACHINE: Tactics was nigh.

WARMACHINE: Tactics is a turn-based strategy game based on what you know and love from the miniature-based WARMACHINE game with all the delicious bits you can expect out of an X-Com/Final Fantasy Tactics style squad-based tactical combat experience. There will be offline single-player with an incredible story, multiplayer head-to-head combat with features so tasty that it aches to not be able to reveal them just yet, and of course all the slamming, 'jack thrashing action you've only been able to imagine so far.

The game is expected to release with with two playable factions Cygnar and Khador, and is said to feature both synchronous and asynchronous online multiplayer .

If the above sounds enticing, Warcasters, know that a Kickstarter campaign will be launching on July 10th, promising at least a couple more factions (Cryx and the Protectorate of Menoth) should certain stretch goals be met, and even downloadable content packs are already planned.

There's now a free demo of WARMACHINE: Tactics on Steam and the new DLC faction, Retribution of Scyrah, has also been released (see some intel on the latter here).

Demo highlights:

• Squad-level, turn based tactical game featuring full access to multiplayer (with limited squad building options). Demo users can play against users with the full game!

• 3 of the 20 levels of single player campaign, to introduce new players to the world of the Iron Kingdoms.

• Skirmish mode for the opportunity to test units against computer controlled AI.

• Access to customizable squad loadouts for 4 of the 6 main factions – each with a different playstyle and aesthetic.
