Elemental: Fallen Enchantress

Fizzle and pop? Nope - zap! The new stand-alone expansion Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes can now be pre-purchased on Steam, granting immediate access to the current beta version to those heroic enough to be cast there ahead of the rest.

The magi at Stardock Entertainment convey the following:

Legendary Heroes is more than a traditional expansion pack and more of a top to bottom improvement to the core game play. The graphics are substantially better, the game design tighter, the game play swifter and the world richer with more monsters, spells, quests and more.

Regarding the lore:

The Fallen Enchantress seeks to destroy the civilizations that have risen from the ashes of the Cataclysm. Fortunately, your fame has spread and great heroes have been drawn to your banner. With your new champions, you will confront new horrors like liches, brood hunters, banshees, and the dreaded hergon.

The main incantations:

• Gain Champions Through Fame: Champions are no longer simply found, instead, they seek you out based on the amount of Fame your kingdom has generated. And not all of these legendary heroes were Men or Fallen…

• New Leveling System: Your sovereign and champions now evolve through a skill tree that visually allows you to plan what kind of hero you want him or her to be. Make your mage into a powerful Necromancer, or train your Assassin in special attacks that bleed the life from your enemies.

• Updated Tactical Battles: Battles are now more intense with additional special skills, combat mechanics, spells and new maps.

• New Monsters: The legendary heroes didn’t reach our lands alone. The events of the Fallen Enchantress have raised the dead and caused forgotten creatures to return to the surface of the world.

• More Magic: New spells like ‘Lightning Form’ and ‘Raise Skeletal Horde’ add new options and dangers to battle.

• Larger Maps: A new gigantic sized map delivers truly epic games.

• Updated Graphics Engine: An improved graphics engine delivers stunning new visuals while improving performance on older machines.

And much, much more!

Some additional detail on the above has been recently offered by CEO Mr. Brad Wardell here.

Owners of Fallen Enchantress on Steam will find it particularly enchanting as the expansion is half-price for them. Scrying also indicates that Legendary Heroes will be among us in earnest come this May.

Before I even entered a game I realised quickly that Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes has the potential for immense replayability. Technologies don’t provide new units to build but instead provide knowledge of different types of equipment and training to enable the player to then design their own units.

Read all about the rather charming impressions RTSguru's Alex 'Farske' Brown was left with after playing.

To be honest those changes aren't that much to create expansion for 40$, this is like selling another game with only few tweaks. Though I bought with the 50% discount having original version which I didn't play that much I still feel kind of robbed. This should be 10$ add-on to the original version, since changes are only quite little more than marginal.

Cults have arisen around the worship of strange gods. Will you embrace these new religions and build wonders to them in your cities, or purge them from your lands. Will you hunt down rumors of dark clad warriors, when those that ignore their orders end up dead? Will you join a cult drinking and celebrating as they burn ancient libraries to the ground, or save the books and burn the cultists instead?

As this happens new, unique, creatures have appeared in Elemental. The demon Cnotta, who has long been restrained beneath Umber's Adytum Orphanage, has been freed. A diminutive alchemist's attempt to permanently increase his size only affected his skeleton, a tragedy a necromancer has taken advantage of to create a colossal skeleton.
