New S^3 Mod "All Uniforms" in development (feedback is welcome)

Recommended Posts

(Note: this is only for Silent Storm: Sentinels)

All right folks, I am going to attempt to make a modification that allows players to buy any uniform (whether existing or only in model form) from the seller at the Sentinel base from the very beginning (as soon as you get access to his stock).

Since the uniforms are separate items in S^3 as compared to S^2 where they were simple models - they need to be created first.

I'll try to keep the mod light (sizewise) so only the textures and materials available in the game will be used for v 1.0 of the mod.

After Lt. Havoc contacted me I started messing around with some of the uniforms today, here are the results:

ItalianUniforms.png

Remember the "Manor" special encounter from S^2 where the fabled "Sea Devil" rifle was located. It had German and Italian troops in the area. Since Italian models are still in the game, I decided to make them fully usable. Italian Uniforms Done!

JapaneseUniforms.png

Another special encounter "Road Bend" with Katana had Japanese troops and a bunch of "Ninjas". Now one can dress like them.

The guy on the left was supposedly a double agent from S^2 (or was it triple? I don't remember). Couldn't fool me though, his shirt is not pink it's black! And he is wearing gloves! An absolute triple agent if you ask me. The cripple on the right is ...umm - one of those easily forgettable S^3 characters (at least for me). Anyway, if your male characters put that uniform on - they'll look crippled too, but act like nothing happened. Very fashionable.

They are not cheap, mind you. That SOB at the base overcharges for everything. Maybe I need to enable combat at that location just once. Guess who is going to go first? Yup, he is.

(Yes, I believe the guy who tried to escape on a plane was Hanke. Colonel Hanke. Although I suspect his real title started with Standarten something...)

You sir, are a god among men. These look fantastic. Anyway I checked again what other uniforms the "more uniform mod" unlocks and took some screenshots of them. I hope that they can be implemented into Sentinels as well. Here they are:

https://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y117/LtHavoc/Commando_zps384ddd47.jpg

This is the outfit I am currently using in Silent Storm for the main hero. Thats the one I want back.

https://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y117/LtHavoc/Commando2_zps5973bde6.jpg

This one looks really nice too, no idea if you even encounter those ingame

https://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y117/LtHavoc/GermanSoldier_zps19c57639.jpg

I am not sure if these are from the Axis Skin pack or the normal uniforms but it looks great.

There where some more in there, mostly civilian/researcher and engineer models as well as US Army Soldier and US Army Commander that I think are already in Silent Storm as an outfit. There was also some regular Russian soldier uniforms, plus the russian officer model and the russian soldier models with snow on them.

Ah yes, the whole slew of German soldier models where in there too, mostly the Fallschirmjäger ones. I should see if there is more if you go and look at the Axis side.Let me know if you need screens or anything so I can provide them.

Anyway, will it be possible to also add custom uniforms? I could provide camo textures for such a thing, all authentic WW2 camos, mostly of Russian and American origin, but I also should have some german camo patterns as well. So please let me know.

Thanks.

I am not familiar with the mod you are referring to. As for Commando uniforms they are already available in Sentinels along with some others.

Here are all of the Original Uniforms (most had a uniform as an RPG item already present)

OriginalHeroUniforms.png

They are pretty much unchanged except for a few things:

- I removed hair model from female complex heads. Now if the uniform comes with a helmet, a gas mask, glasses, etc. the female characters will be able to wear the headgear. In cases when the uniform does not have any headgear - it will provide that female with a "wig" (which is basically the same hair model on their head. Since I assigned different hair to different helmetless uniforms - your female characters will change their hair style and color. That's what they do in life anyway, no surprise there.)

- Allied Female soldier now can wear beret. I changed the uniform model to match that.

- The same with Axis soldier girl. Her uniform features the camo helmet from elite soldier NPC uniform.

- Axis scout doesn't have that mask permanently attached to his face. It comes with the uniform and goes with it once you change it.

- Axis engineer enjoys a new black leather side cap instead of a fabric one (Sentinel Colonel body texture has proven to be very helpful)

_____________________________________________________________________________________

OriginalNPCUniforms_1.png

No changes here. They come with their own uniforms.

____________________________________________________________________________________

OriginalNPCUniforms_2.png

Very minor tweaks here. As I mentioned before the females can wear helmets and caps now. This female here is actually Klaus with Dani's head and gender change (I know it sounds intriguing, after all he was the key tester for female uniforms on templates, since I am stuck with Fritz, Rocco and Klaus in the editor.)

Yes, it is possible to add custom uniforms. Here are some (using only game resources):

BlackCamoBeretCapUniforms.png

There were no Thor's Hammer uniforms available in the original Sentinels. I created these using the MG soldier model with elite commander body material. A perfect fit, wouldn't you say?

To the left: Beret is allied soldier cap model with sentinel colonel body material. Uniform layout is Rifle ammo oriented with some fancy terror backpack and a few gadgets and flasks and pouches.

This MG soldier model is bulkier and more man-like looking than the thinner looking camos. I am still entertaining the idea to restrict these to male characters and the thinner ones to females. What do you think?

_____________________________________________________

Here are the female ones for comparison:

BlackFallCamosFemaleUniforms.png

Now, If you are talking about importing new textures and fitting them on existing models - I've done this before (actually many times). Just keep in mind I'd like to keep the mod small (at least for the moment). Right now it is only 159kb in size. We can discuss it I'll just hold off on importing the textures until all the possible combos using the original textures, items and models are exhausted.

All right, some more uniform goodness:

FallCamoCapRifleBeretUniforms.png

On the left: The same Terror MG soldier model with fall camo material from elite soldier body. Cap has the same texture. The uniform model is borrowed from Sentinel female officer.

On the right: Terror Rifle soldier with beret. Nice brown leather!

Two more Terror Rifle soldier uniforms. One has engineer style layout and the other one is rifle ammo heavy.

More Thor's Hammer uniforms:

TerrorSoldiersBuffRegCapGreenUniforms.png

Most of the uniforms use German Officer uniform model. I have to say it is probably the most versatile model as most materials fit that model quite well.

These guys look mean. I always felt that the helmets with masks were somewhat an overkill. But that's how it is... unless we decide to change it.

Btw, if you have any naming (renaming) suggestions - I'll consider them.

Well, that looks great so far. I just wish it where possible to choose some other outfits from the start but buying them is okay too. But man those prices are insane XD

As for the mods I was talking about: the Axis Wehrmacht Skin pack is from here: https://www.strategycore.co.uk/files/axis-wehrmacht-skins/

The All Uniforms Mod for Silent Storm I found here: https://s2mods.tripod.com/

Now I just need a mod that increases the Grenade Range and maybe makes the medical and Engineering items eaiser to use and I am set.

As for the names of the uniforms: the Renegade Aassault Uniforms I would name "Heavy Trooper Uniform" or "Armored Soldier" and the version should be then Black and Desert etc. The leather Jacket outfit could be named "Spy fashion" or "Agent outfit" it would make more sense. One thing I was wondering if that would be possible: I recall that in Silent Storm the Renegade Soldiers in the Fall Camo Outfits wore Gasmask all the time, would it be possible to use these Gasmask for other outfits as well, like the Renegade Assault Uniforms etc.? Or how about mixing the armor with the camo uniforms?

I always liked them, they looked cool. Also so you know why I asked for custom camo uniforms: I found it stupid that you are part of a Special Operations group and aside from Snipers, no Camo Uniforms whee available for you, despite the fact that in 1943 the British issued Denison Camo Smocks to Para Troopers and SAS and the USA had given out Camo Uniforms to their Marines at that time, the M42 camo also known as Frogskin, Leafpattern or Duckhunter Camo. Not to mention the self made camo uniforms of the US Airborne Pathfinder Units.

Also the Russians also had more camo patterns at that time, like the M1941 summer camo uniform and with Sentinels there would also be the M1944 camo coverall. So, I just thought that maybe it would be possible to add them to the game for even more variety. Just an idea.

Anyway I am looking forward to this mod.

Thanks, M10s.

How many copies of items do you think the seller should have?

I am not working on the H&S mod at the moment. It got corrupted on my win7 machine (I have an older back up though) and as a result of that my modding attempts had to migrate to a different rig with winXP.

Actually that massive mod was getting too big anyway (over 2 GBs) with no end in sight smile.png . I used it to test all kinds of new things: textures, templates, effects. Literally, thousands of templates, with over 50 ready maps. Oh well, at least I got tons of experience from it wink.png

I am thinking of creating a more compact version of it for Sentinels. Now here is the catch: if the community wants it to be done any time soon (I work fast) they'd need to participate. Constant feedback for - plot development, dialogs, loot ideas, areas and layout - are required. Step by step, unit by unit, one encounter at a time. If someone has a script they want me to use, a scenario twist they want to implement, a texture they think will benefit the visuals, etc. - I will definately consider those.

It can be a simple sandbox scenario or a more complex scenario structure. Depending on what the folks want and how feasible I deem it to be. A realistic initial goal I'd set would be a Three template demo in two months time.

Example 1 : "I have this idea of starting the scenario with my hero imprisoned in Nazi jail and criminal charges are unknown. A high ranking SS officer comes and arranges hero's release. His conditions are simple: work for me for a year and you are home free. Type of work ranges from assassinations of various officials and stealing important documents, to blowing up facilities and providing support and cover for other operatives.

Along the way the hero (or more likely the human player) discovers the truth about themselves and the world around them... (I'll provide the specific details if you are interested)"

Example 2 : "Well, how about a random encounter somewhere in the forest, with some bandits talking about some treasure or map they found. Yet, being the geniuses that they are, they can't figure out where it is. Now the trick is in wording in the note they found. Requires a little thinking on player's part. I have the rough draft of the text. You think you could implement it in your scenario? I can help with scripting it, btw."

Have any ideas. Shoot!

Thorondor, for example, proposed a plot "Replacements" in the thread titled "Your perfect scenario". I don't know if he wanted to work on it or not though.

Of course, I'd like to finish "All Uniforms" first smile.png

____________________________________________________________

Well, that looks great so far. I just wish it where possible to choose some other outfits from the start but buying them is okay too. But man those prices are insane XD

Thanks Lt.

What prices do you think would be reasonable?

I could place them on different mission and/or random encounter templates. That way you could find them yourself.

Now I just need a mod that increases the Grenade Range and maybe makes the medical and Engineering items eaiser to use and I am set.

Any idea on where the range is located? (I've never dealt with that specific value)

I already changed the automatic perk assignment for all the hirable NPC ("PerksToTakes" db table changed the values to -1). Now you choose their perks yourself.

What changes would you like to see in medical and engineering types of items? Easier? How? To bring requirements down or to increase the number of uses? To increase the bonus they provide?

As for the names of the uniforms: the Renegade Aassault Uniforms I would name "Heavy Trooper Uniform" or "Armored Soldier" and the version should be then Black and Desert etc. The leather Jacket outfit could be named "Spy fashion" or "Agent outfit" it would make more sense. I'll look into that, thanks Lt.

Not to mention the self made camo uniforms of the US Airborne Pathfinder Units.

Let's finish the vanilla ones first. If you have textures ready - please post them in this thread (or just links to them will do).

Also the Russians also had more camo patterns at that time, like the M1941 summer camo uniform and with Sentinels there would also be the M1944 camo coverall. So, I just thought that maybe it would be possible to add them to the game for even more variety. Just an idea.
Good idea, post the textures and think of the models they might look good on (I posted all the original models a few posts up). It IS possible!

You asked for camos with gas masks. Here they are:

CamosWithGasMasks.png

I tried to apply german double filter to the hooded fall camo - the filters were sticking out so bad I removed that uniform version. Just didn't look right.

The names are:

- "Black (or Fall) Camo & Alpha Gas Mask" (for alllied version) one of the straps is only partially visible on males. Not terrible but noticable.)

- "Black (or Fall) Camo & Double Filter Gas Mask" (for German version with double filters).

- "Black (or Fall) Camo & TRR Gas Mask" (for terror version) - the only one that fit perfectly on all models I tried so far (except for big faces, of course)

German Female Sniper Uniform model was used for all of these.

You know, a lot of time ago H&S has started as biggest mod for ss2, it was about 300-500mb as demo for the future game. And only after this demo was released in internet and game magazines CD's, the people attention in the official forum increased repeatedly. So, for all this time u are working on this mod, don't you think about releasing some kind of demo, or cut it into parts? As for me, your mod is looking like global, and its seems to be big number of awesome detailed maps in it, like in Stalingrad mod by Natrix.

About the copies, 6 will be great i guess.

Good work so far Blunter, this is coming along very well. I hope you can release this soon. Regarding the "Easier Medical and Engineering items" here is what the mod description says:

"Now your engineer is actually useful! This mod serves a much needed function, making it easier to use all medical and engineering items in the game. This counters the great difficulty had in raising these skills in the regular game.

In technical language, the mod multiplies by 2/3 the skill required for successful use of a medical or engineering item."

https://www.strategyc...ineering-items/

The grenade range mod you can find here: https://www.strategyc...range-increase/

It basically half's the weight of all the grenades so you can throw them further.

Regarding the prices for the uniforms: I dont know, but 2000 Dollars for a surplus uniform sounds a bit much, dont you think? The more common uniforms should start around 100-150 $ and the more rare uniforms maybe should be like 300 to 500 while stuff like those Assault Uniforms that have armor should be like 700 $ or something. Just an idea. The amont of uniforms in stock should vary, more common uniforms have greater stockade like 10 or 20 in stock and the more rare or exotic uniforms should have like 2 to 3 sets or something.

So, about camo textures: I dug some up and I will also say what these will most fit to.

Lets start with the Russian Patterns

https://i4.photobucke...ssianTTsMKK.png

This is the TTsMK pattern version 1.

https://i4.photobucke...sMKK65x32cm.png

Version 2

https://i4.photobucke...grey35x37cm.png

Thats a 1948 Leaf pattern version 1

https://i4.photobucke...haki35x37cm.png

Version 2

These fit the best for the Terror Gunner/Sniper uniforms that have a Hood, because the Russians gave these out as one piece coveralls with a hood.

Here are the American patterns:

https://i4.photobucke...nWWIImarine.png

That is one version of the USMC Pacific pattern.

https://i4.photobucke...amo/Pacific.png

Here is another version of that pattern.

https://i4.photobucke...hop_preview.png

And another one.

These would fir the US Soldier NPC the best, you could also use the ParaTrooper/Commando Soldier that has the Paratrooper smock for it and simply give the smock this texture ala Paramarine. Here is the thing about the M1942 pattern and how it was used: it was most seen as helmet cover, but the Marine Raiders used both camo shirts and pants while most regular marines either used the shirt or the pants, mixing and matching. I know that this is a bit impossible in the game but just so you know.

I am still trying to find the texture for the Denison Smock aka Bushstroke. I will post it as soon as I have it.

Here is a drawing of how that would look like:

https://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y117/LtHavoc/Alternate%20WWII/1326153956siman-clifton_paraforce.jpg

As for German camo patterns, here is a link to a camo pack, just hit "download" to get them

https://tounushi.devi...-pack-342622989

These are perfect for any German Axis uniform that already uses camo, like the German commandos, Paratroopers etc. The pack also includes Italian camo patterns that where used by Germans as well. Hell if you want you could even give some of these patterns to the Thor Hammer soldiers if you want to.

So let me know what you think.

Renamed some of the uniforms as requested ( Hammer uniforms to "Trooper Outfit", "Heavy Trooper Outfit", "Armored Trooper Outfit", US agent to "Agent Outfit", etc.)

Reduced the prices as you suggested (more or less). Still having an issue with updating the number of available copies of the same item. For some reason db table changes to "quantity" don't affect anything.

I have a suspicion that the number there might actually mean the probability of any given item showing up at all (since some of the values that were already there were 0.3, 0.5, etc.) Hmm... a bit frustrated here.

All right, most of the uniforms needed correct armor model to be specified in their armor groups. Most found reasonable fits, some better than others. Some couldn't ("Sailor", "Vatnik" and "Bartender"). Trying 30+ various armor models on all the 60+ new uniforms in order to find the best match wasn't much fun, but it's finally over. Here are a few screens:

ArmorsForUniforms_1.png

ArmorsForUniforms_2.png

ArmorsForUniforms_3.png

ArmorsForUniforms_4.png

If he poked his eye out for the Fatherland what else could you expect from a man like that?

_____________________________________________________

I discovered that some uniforms had armor values of their own. The "Armored Trooper" type. I didn't assign any armor models to them (since they are already - armored) and increased the price. Regular "Armored" are medium armor (40% damage negated) and run at $6500 currently, while the "Elite" - heavy (60% damage negated) run at $11500.

I also tested the uniforms in the game. They were present but the number of copies were somewhat inconsistent with my expectations. I think the rating means the number of missions passed when the item becomes available, and the quantity is how many new ones will appear in the sellers inventory after one mission (or maybe one mission block). I already edited that RPGShopItems so many times I can recite it ...not really wink.png

______________________________________________________

I'll test it again and then we can proceed to making new uniforms, perhaps make some uniforms more resistant to damage (now that I figured how to do it).

______________________________________________________

Hey, Lt. thanks for the links.

Looks like we'll be seeing some neat camo patterns soon.

I'll look into the med. and eng. items (haven't gotten to it, the armor fitting took longer than I thought)

At this point I am not even remotely interested in commercial anything. Just want to create new content for one of my favorite games (hoping that the community will assist with ideas and some of the other things). After all after I upload it - it'll be available for playing, right?

As for my H&S mod, I might come back to it in a while (not now though).

That looks great. Thanks for the update. But dont you think that 6500 and 11500 Dollars are not a bit too high price wise or is it hat easy to earn money in Sentinels? I do plan on playing it with Random Storm so at least that means there will be lots of stuff you can capture and sell from that. But maybe it should be possible to find some of those uniforms in random encounters.

Still trying to get the WWII Para Camo pattern seems impossible to find. If anyone else can provide it, I would be happy.

Regular price for the armor in the game is somewhat high (light = $5000, medium = &12000, heavy = $20000). But considering the benefits it provides it is certainly worth the money. As for earning money , it depends. I am a pack rat, so multiple trips to the base to sell off various loot is not a problem for me. (the missions won't make you rich).

Now to the new textures. I am trying them in a seperate mod, since some overwriting is always involved and don't want to mess anything up in the "All Uniforms" mod. Once it looks decent I'll import it. Feedback is greatly appreciated ( just tell the truth wink.png )

Anyway, I found some of my old textures for SAS. Check them out:

They seem a bit too dark, espeially the soldier, don't they?

The devart pack you provided a link for had some nice camo textures. Made a desert SAS and a German Summer camo. What do you think?

About those medical and engineering items - do you know what exactly they changed to make them easier to use? The mod description is not really helpful to me sad.png

Oh, and if you happen to stumble upon any winter textures, please post the link (not just clothes. Walls too...)

Well, I checked the readme of the Easier Items mod and thats what it said:

Table RPGEngGrenades :

- Multiplied by 2/3 all skill required

Table RPGPicklocks :

- Multiplied by 2/3 all skill required

- Doubled the number of uses

Table RPGTools :

- Multiplied by 2/3 all NeededEngskills

Table RPGFirstAids :

- Multiplied by 2/3 all skill required

I do not know what that means. All i know is that the skill requirement for the items was lower then in the vanilla game and that you could use the items more often, meaning your Engi or Medic would get more Experience points by using the items. That was at least the case with my Engi who I had try to open all doors, all closed boxes etc and got her to a skill of almost 60 during my play through.

The only other thing you could do is to try and contact the guy who made the mod, seeing that the mod was posted here on this very site the person should still have a account here. If not I say you simply reduce the skill requirement of all the items by like 10 to 20 points and leave your modification in that Engis and Medics start with 3 perks you can choose from.

Now lets talk about the uniforms: the first 2 guys you said where SAS look more like they belong to some South American Army of some Banana republic run by a Dictator then SAS. Still the camo textures look very good.

The Red Berets are fine but as far as I know, when the SAS was re-established in 1947, they got a Sand/Tan colored beret, so its up to you what beret you use. The most common camo they wore was either the one piece SOE coverall or the Dension Smock both in the Bushstroke/Dension camo where I still try to find textures for.

Still, there was no standard kit anyway so yeah they would wear other stuff as well.

About the Sumpfmuster:

https://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y117/LtHavoc/Alternate%20WWII/1275440780052.jpg

German Fallshrimjäger 1944. The Sumpfmuster was mostly used for the Airborne Smock called Knochensack by Germans. It was worn over the regular uniform, in the case of the Fallschrimjäger, it was blue, but desert tan uniforms also existed. See here:

So yeah the Sumpfmuster was also used in a desert Setting as this color plate shows. The pattern was rather universal and there was a 2 piece over suit design that was worn over the regular uniform in cold weather that was all white on one side and the other had the Sumpfmuster. Also note how the brown version of the SS Peadot camo is used here as a desert camo by the soldier in the middle.

The Eichenlaub muster uniform is okay with me.

About Winter camo: during and after WWII the most basic winter camo was either a 2 piece or one piece over suit that was simply white in color. Special Winter Camo patterns came much later, I think the German Bundeswehr got such suits in the 60s or 70s.

Here is the basic german winter camo of WWII. 2 piece white oversuits worn over the regular uniform and winter gear. the Russians basically did the same.

Russian Soldiers in Stalingrad with Snow suits.

The USA didnt had such suits during the war, but the US Soldiers would improvise by using white sheets of cloth that would be put over the uniform:

Other then that they of course had the warm overcoats and stuff like this that where not in any camo colors as seen in the color plate.

Anyway I will still look out for winter textures regardless. So I hope this post was informative to you and I hope the images are not too large.

Well, was looking though some flicker and found a very well done drawing of the SAS in WWII.

https://farm7.staticflickr.com/6078/6129400326_7aa82712b4_b.jpg

As you can see, they wear Dension Smocks in the typical camo, brown trousers and black boots. Also note the weapons, M1 Carbines, Thompson's and Bren Gun. Anyway, you can find tons of more images here as reference: BOX ART

Let me know if you have any questions about them.

Thank you for the links and pictures. Beautiful! That artist is very talented.

I tried to put that sumpfmuster on an Italian soldier today - and, well it didn't go so well.

I am not a modeler and pretty much stuck with the models already present in the game - which means I create a texture - import it - create material - add material on a model - check if it is ok or not and then either make a uniform or redo the texture/ adjust it - reimport it - rinse and repeat...

Anyway, it's not a big deal. Just a little bit disappointed that the guy with the scarf didn't come out as good as I thought he should have. Oh well....

BTW, the pictures you posted are very inspirational. Thank you, Lt.

I don't have any specific questions about the uniforms yet, still making changes and tweaks in the values and such.

Now, back to medical and engineering.

Well, I checked the readme of the Easier Items mod and thats what it said:

I got it. Here's what I did:

- Reduced the skill requiment. Lowered it ~ 30% (i.e. if it was 60 - it is 40 now, etc.)

- Increased some of the items quantities (ex.: was 3 - now it's 5)

- The "no use again for N turns" number for medical items now equals the duration of the drug. IOW you can use it again right after its effect expires.

- The same with engineering items (weapon repair and demining equipment)

- Left alone those special perks requiments for a couple of high end items (unchanged)

About the perks:

I disabled automatic distribution of hirelings' perks. Ex.: If you hire Fritz (lev. 14) you'll get to pick 13 perks for him. basically, it gives you freedom to give them the perks you think they'll be most useful with (not someone else picking them for you)

________________________________

I also changed some of the Classes' values and base values.

By default, some of the mercenaries had horrible values - especially Dex. I rearranged some of the starting points to give them a bit more Dex, since Dex (in my opinion, of course) is the most important attribute primarily affecting available APs and shooting skill.

________________________________

In addition I modified the speed of Attribute growth. It used to be 2x for primary attribute determined by the character's profession (Scout - Dex, Engineer - Int, Grenadier - Str) and 1x for everything else. Now it is 3x, and Dex is 2x for every merc and the player.

Please, tell me what you think of the changes listed above.

Thanks for the feedback and all the info so far. It's very useful!

We'll get back to the uniforms in a bit.
