UFO: Afterlight Mobile

I recently watched Angry Joe's UFO: Extraterrestrials review and found something very interesting from the comments section. In addition to the UFO: Afterlight PC game, there also exists another version for mobile phones.

Trailer with gameplay footage
Official homepage

I wasn't able to get the game run on my Nokia 5230. After the loading screen, the game just freezed with a message "The game doesn't support landscape mode. Please only use portrait mode."

However, I was able to run it on my PSP with the help of PSP-KVM but only after turning the sounds off.

The strategic portion of the game seems rather simplistic. You can choose which mission you play next, equip your soldiers and occassionally make some simple plot related decisions. The tactical portion, however, is quite fun. Intead of Simultaneous Action System, the mobile version uses a more traditional turn-based approach which reminds me of the early Shining Force games on Sega Genesis. Also, the enemies seem to actually use cover this time instead of mindlessly charging you, so camping is not nearly as effective strategy as it was on the PC version.

UFO: Afterlight Reticulan Mod 2.0 (Clones Edition)

BolaDePel just released version 2.0 of his Reticulan Mod for UFO: Afterlight to the public. The mod adds tons of new features to the game, and comes with this description.

QUOTE

This mod is an upgrade of the Reticulan mod 1.0 with several new features. The biggest addition is the technology to create human and beastman clones that can fight alongside with your soldiers.

This game does not allow to get any more soldiers than the predefined ones (drones not included). But you can get martian robot bodies after robots missions and repair them after researching the appropiate technology.
This mod uses the same trick: you can produce cloned bodies than can be "repaired", and then you can use them as any other of your soldiers. An annoying side effect of this technique is that the clones are "repaired" with only 1 HP like the martian drones, so they need a lot of healing before you can use them.

There are also a lot of other changes in this mod, with new items, technologies and trainings.

http://www.strategycore.co.uk/forums/post-a2186-Swords.jpg.html http://www.strategycore.co.uk/forums/post-a2187-Equipment01.jpg.html http://www.strategycore.co.uk/forums/post-a2188-Production.jpg.html

You can read more about the modification and provide feedback in this topic, or download it directly in our files section.

ACM Total Conversion for UFO: Aftershock

It's been a while since UFO: Aftershock was released, but the modding community isn't dead. Okim's been hard at work with his total conversion ACM, and now the first beta is ready for download. Here's a list of features:

QUOTE

Little info on the current version:

1. new weapons and items.
2. new descriptions and models (exept some mines, original missile launchers and barret rifle).
3. new sound effects.
4. new techs. All research regarding various weapons/items handling was removed.
5. tech prerequisites for firearms, drones and some other techs were modified a bit.
6. adjusted almost all weapons. Launchers, grenades and mines deal a lot of damage. Melee weapons all deal increased damage. Throwing grenades require less time to prime, aim and throw.
7. re-equiped all factions with new weapons.
8. removed scout drone and all drone scanning equipment and autodestructor. Drones are now heavy weapons support systems.

http://www.strategycore.co.uk/forums/post-a1975-borg-t3.jpg.html http://www.strategycore.co.uk/forums/post-a1976-gmg4.jpg.html http://www.strategycore.co.uk/forums/post-a1977-hvy2.jpg.html

You can download the modification in our files section and provide feedback in this forum topic.
