Alex leaned back on his bed, reading the Bible. He was going through some of the Psalms, especially those written by King David in his dark times. Something stirred in his heart, and he got up, put the book down, and walked to Private McAllister's room and knocked, hoping the field medic was in...
Hey everyone! Horrible news! Apprenttly in order to hook up our new network cable for our new connection, the cable company has to dig a big trench from our new house to our neighbors house! And worst of all, they wont be able to do it for another 4 or 5 weeks, and THAN they have to make another appointment to hook up the cable! So... when am I going to be able to go back onto mIRC? I really don't know, we're looking at our options for an alternative internet connection, but hopefully we'll figure something out soon, I'll try to post more in the role playing forum. Since my character is on his way to becoming a solider/engineer anyway, let's just say he's not avaliable for combat because he's learning his new trade, hmmmm? either that, or you can just take him on missions and have someone else role play him. Sorry guys, talk to you later!
Might want to add Stahley to that them there bubonic plague list as well, he should be feeling fine next saturday... at least he'd BETTER! *shakes his fist at the cable guys for taking their sweet time fixing up his new system.*
"Yes ma'am." Paladin said as he lumbered out of the briefing room. For a moment he considered going back and cleaning up the innards of his stomach that he had just unleashed from his mouth, but than thought better of it as he felt another coming on. God. why did I have be sick now? He half thought, half mumbled on his way to the lavatory before he went to the medical room.
Alexander was sitting next to Harris, barley even paying attention to the misson.
His head swam, he was getting sick, he knew he had to be. He was about to say something when Harris saw him and moved his lips, Alex could only guess he was asking if he was okay. Alexi shook his friend's shoulder roughly, trying to get him to snap out of it. That wasn't a good idea. Alexander turned his head and vomited all over the briefing room floor.
"Sorry... ma'am... may I be excused?" he asked, trying to get up, before vomiting again.
OOC: Sorry, I won't be able to make it for a couple weeks until my internet connection is all hooked up, which will be about two weeks. Sorry I really regret it. Could someone maybe e-mail me with updates and such so I dont get left behind?
Alexander lay in his "Biological relaxation device" (bed) with his hands behind his head. He had finally forced himself to go to sleep on this deathly quiet planet. He snored quite loudly, taking after his father, and for all he knew, his grandparents too. He hadn't actually gotten a full nights sleep since they had crashed. Too many dreams. Some involved him finding his brother and sister dead on the squad's next mission. One involved him coming face to face with an Ethereal; a creature his grandmother used to tell him stories about her own father experiencing. She tried to use it as a sort of 'boogyman.' "Go to sleep Alex, or the Ethereal will get you" She would mock.
Alex turned in his sleep, his hands slipping out from behind his head and flaying horizontilly outside the bed. He had had one dream where he was under alien control and murdered his entire squad. Worse and worse... And another where the Biblical Apocalypse had occured, one where he fell from space to earth non-stop, a total freefall. And when he hit the ground he was suddenly on his feet in the jungle, hunting aliens with the rest of blue squad. And they would all turn and began laughing at him. He would look down and realize he was in his underwear!
Alex let out a long snore that turned into a groan as he got up. He had had that same dream again... the one ever since he was a child... it was the green monkey again... Alex shook his head, got up, stretched, and headed outside to get some fresh air.
Alexander waited until Vanessa was finished checking out Harris. "See man, you're fine"
"Yeah, well you still didn't have to shoot at me" Harris glared at him while Vanessa chuckled.
"Were you so quick to become a "daddy? I've seen what those things can do. He gave McAllister a double-take. "I doubt even our skilled little medic here could have helped you much then." The memory of the last mission struck Stahley and he popped another couple of pills into his mouth. "Among other things..." he mumbled about McAllister under his breath.
"Ooooohhhh....." Alexander moaned, finally coming back to the reality of pain after a night of restless sleep. He had had headaches before, but nothing like this...He was still in the medlab bed from which he had fallen unconscious. It was a restless night full of horrific dreams, but at least his head hadn't hurt anymore. Now he was back in reality and all he knew was pain.
"Time to get up Dorothy, it was alllll a dream..." Came a familiar voice.
"Alexei... please shut up...." Stahley rasped. "I never knew such pain was possible..."
"Awww... what's the matter? The cute little medic you like hurt you too much?"
Alexander than let out a string of words that he would have to ask forgiveness from God for later.
"Come on pal, it couldn't have been THAT bad."
"Yes... yes it could..." Alex mumbled, groaning again. "Bloody... grenade... coulda... taken... all them... 'toids out myself..."
"'Don't be a hero and get your stupid self killed.' Isn't that what you are always telling me?" Alexei replied.
Alexander than made a few select hand gestures that he would ALSO have to ask forgiveness for later...
Alexander Stahley walked his friend into the medlab where the crabby nurse sat in front of a monitor clicking various applications. She saw Alexei walk in first and gave him a nasty look. "What??" She rasped.
"Headache. Give me some bloody stims" Alexei moaned, impatiently but not raising his voice much.
"What about that new medic in blue squad, McAllister? She's kinda cute..." Alexander continued talking to Alexei while the nurse went to get a bottle and came back to the moaning Alexei.
Alexei chuckled. "I dunno man, Earthers are a bunch of snobs..."
The nurse suddenly lifted up a nasty looking needle and jammed it into Alexei's knee causing the big man to let you a sharp yelp of surprise and pain.
"Sorry dear," the nurse smirked. "We're all out of pills."
"But there's a whole bloody bottle right-"!
"Do not distract the nurse while she is working" The woman snapped and went back to the medical supply room. So that's where that German accent comes from... Alex thought.
Alexei winced and turned back to Alex. "What are you doing looking at her anyway, man? Don't you people have to take a vow of celibacy or something?"
"Erm, no. Those are just Catholic priests I think. And I'm not a priest nor am I catholic." Alex pointed out. "Besides, we're both unmarried, and I was just admiring the natural beauty of a young woman..."
"Yeah yeah, that's total bull and you know it." Alexei slugged him on the shoulder, smirking.
"Well anyway, I'm heading to the VR room to catch up on some of what I missed. You wanna come with?" Alexander asked.
"Dude, you want me to get brain cancer or something?"
"I just might..." Alex said, rubbing his chin slightly.
"What was that?"
"Oh, nothing, I'll catch you later man, hope you feel better."
Alexander watched and winced through the viewscreen as he observed what was going on in the Virtual Reality world. "They were doing so well too..." he muttered as he saw Vanessa's head get blown clean off. He chuckles as he watches Alexei take a fatal wound to the midsection. "Aren't gloating too much now, are ya Alex?" He turns his head away from the viewscreen a few seconds before the mission ends, just before Ice's kamakazi move. He turned around just in time to see the "Mission Over" heading on the screen, and got a quick view of all his comrads dead on the battlefield. He runs over to where they're coming out of VR.
"Sorry I didn't make it sir..." he says to the Lt. as soon as he is back in reality. "I could have been a lot of help..."
Alexander had arrived and was now sitting next to Alexei, who seemed to be distracted, as if his friend wasn't ever not distracted, he was going to ask him what was up but decided better of it until the briefing was over at least. When the squad leader mentioned VR missions, Alex raised an eyebrow at that. He had been in VR before, but never for combat missions, he wondered if they were as real as the real thing. Having never been in actual combat, Alex wasn't sure how well he would perform. He liked to think that he would perform quite well, he felt he was ready, fighting aliens was in his blood. He wondered if he would adapt as quickly as his anscestors did during the previous wars. He had a brother and sister down on earth who fought for Mega Primus during its darkest hour, and as far as he knew they were still alive at the war's end, so could it be assumed that they had gotten used to battling the new alien threat rather quickly? Were they even still alive after this fresh assualt on the earth?
He tried to push the thoughts out of his mind as he turned back toward the briefing. The squad leader, Oskari, had just asked for any questions. Alex raised his hand. "What sort of weapons will we be using in the sims? Plasma and Laser? Or the new Disruptor weapons? Or will we be able to get our hands on something new?" He asked after the Seargeant had called on him. He was trying to go about professionally, but he was very eager to get down to earth and fight the aliens himself, even in the VR room.
<<forgive me if the tech is off, I'm not sure what they're using at this point in the future>>
Alexander Stahley finished up his weight set in the weight room and wiped his brow. The large man stretched his long arms and felt the newfound straing and pressure on his arms. He wasn't "big" by any means, more like tall and and strong, like skinny guy who had never worked out before, but has started doing it regularly for a few years now.
Alex threw a towel over his shoulder and headed out of the weight room to look for his buddy Alexei. He was a wearing a tank top with the "X-Com" logo on it and walked passed the where the shuttles had landed. He smiled as he watched the passengers shuffle out, including their new medic. Alex watched for a few more moments at all the new faces and than headed to the Crash Course Lounge as he noticed the order.
