Quick question,

Does the Total Rebalance mod also alter the number of aliens you face in each mission (i.e. there are a lot more of them?)

I only ask because in my second mission I'm up against 6 Rets with laser rifles and they are tearing my squad apart before I can get anywhere near them sad.gif I've tried every tactical gambit I know including ambusing them, trying to dodge incoming fire, all to no avail. I haven't got enough long range projectile guns to take them out! Argh!

I certainly don't remember anything that tough this early on in the game when playing the vanilla version.

As far as I'm aware I haven't install the Martian assault mod that comes bundled with the total rebalance mod, so I don't think it's that either. It's the like the worst parts of UFO:AM after the russian mission and all the rets appear with rocket launchers.........

The TRM isn't a walk in the park, that's true smile.gif. You can read a similar post in the official forum here. If you browse around the forum, you'll probably find some good suggestions for tactics. If you find it too hard for your liking after doing that, I guess it's time to uninstall. The general impression is that it's harder with the TRM, but also more rewarding.

Yeah I took a look at the offical forums earlier, I just wasn't sure how the mod adjusted the level of enemies smile.gif It's cool I'll keep playing the game with the mod - but I'll have to restart before the current mission, I can't afford to lose 5 characters when I've only just started!

Well,

Maybe I'm not that good at tactics and stuff but the total rebalance mod is being uninstalled. I'm all for difficultly curves, but not impossible starts! All I get is hoards of robots or whatever and not enough ammo.

I never understand why people would do that at the start of a game. By all means punish mistakes, but don't make it so difficult it's nigh on impossible to get started!

Well you should see me playing the Football Manager series. I won't even buy that game anymore, it's far too dangerous to things like social lives, relationships, jobs.........! I've been warned about my Civ addiction too wink.gif

I have a real problem with letting any game beat me, so I think I'm going to have to reinstall this tonight and try again. I'm thinking that I had the advanced missions mod installed as well, and maybe that had more to do with the numbers of aliens I'm facing. Will try it with just the total rebalance mod and see if it gets any easier.

It's not that I can't kill them, it's just that I keep running out of ammo when trying to do so!

Sounds likely. Try just the TRM (and possibly the vision mod that Red recommends in the comments to the TRM download) and see if it's the same.

Success! It's certainly not as easy as vanilla, but at least I'm not getting swarmed with mechanical horrors..... Jus waiting for the beastman teleport mission and the game "proper" to start wink.gif

It's a top mod though isn't it?

It's the best one for Afterlight for sure! The balancing, new weapons with great models and so on is top notch. There are other good ones, but none as extensive or complete as the TRM. Hopefully ShadoWarrior will get back to it at some point.

I'm worried now that it's actually a bit too easy, especially in the early stages when you're kitting everyone out with nades and machine pistols..... Mmmmmm.

Just about to break my alliance with the rebel rets, they've got some crystal deposits I'm after......

Well, the vanilla game is easy at the beginning too anyhow, pretty much until Chiefs and Alchemists start showing up and you're pretty much outgunned and your armor can hardly take a few beastman hits.

I take it all back - I've just had a couple of mission with Alchemists, Shamen and Captains crawling all over the place! This has prompted quite a bit of research shuffling -I've not even got to "advanced firearms" yet sad.gif
