After a failed $2 billion offer for Take Two's ownership, EA made it's intentions public on the 25th of Feb.
Take Two owns several IPs of note - X-Com and GTA among them. They also have members of the original Irrational Games amongst their staff. Although 2K was uninterested in their initial offer, EA is apparently continuing their pursuit. -------------------- |

I hope to God Take2 will keep turning them down.
EA churn out crap for the most part - just my personal opinion mind. -------------------- |

Seems like a ploy by EA to convince the Take Two shareholders to push the Take Two heads to accept the offer. Their timing couldn't be worse, though, with GTA4 (aka big piles of cash) right around the corner and Bioshock being a recent surprise hit with a sequel on the way. Not to mention the regular rollout of 2K sports games.

All your base are belong to us.
Sorry, it's just been waaaay too long since that got a mention I don't like Arstechnica's take on it - the whole "do it, it's inevitable anyway" is pure stupidity. Did they not maybe think that this "obstinacy" they mention in their article might hve something to do with TakeTwo possibly taking pride in their work and not wanting their fine titles lumped in with EA's? If there's no variation or competition in the games market (or any other market for that matter - this means you too Microsoft) then what's the point? GTA will just get turned into some sort of sports game if EA take over anyway. "GTA: Daytona" with one road to drive on and no blood, guts and violence -------------------- |

Heh. The question is whether people will sell their shares. Odds are if EA keeps upping their bid people will give way eventually. At the end of the day Take Two can't stop that from happening (without buying them all up themselves, something that'd make quite a dent in their cash reserves). The question is whether they think they can make more money by letting Take Two hold onto it, or by selling their shares to EA now. I've got a hunch that a lot of people will wait until EA makes their "final offer" and then start cashing in. GTA is extremely popular, probably more so then any title EA owns. It's also more famous (thanks to the tireless efforts of Jack Thompson and others like him). There's no question that the next game in the series will be a money printer, and share holders should know this. However, likely even EA couldn't screw up GTA4 before it hits the shelves. -------------------- |

O RLY?
"GTA4: The Sims Drive to the Shops" More seriously, I hope it's not inevitable, but if it truly is then I also hope that they have a damned good contract that prevents any interference in their current games or future production decisions. I can't see that happening though, can you? -------------------- |
