This was on TFTD v2 with xcomutil 2.6 beta
Actualy I looked at the data files. there was one gill man who had plenty of health. somthing is not right. as tactical was not placing him on a spawn point. where as if I manual placed him then combats starts normaly. I'm going to load the resulting map into Daishiva's mapview and see if I can figure out why he was not placed. -Blade FireLight -------------------- QUOTE Combat is very simple, there is a first place and second place, second place is laying face down in the mud, sometimes, so is first place. |

Seen it plenty of times - always with one of the two smallest USOs. Always wondered why it never turned up in UFO when I first started playing that.
Perhaps TFTD generates the mission as per usual, but then checks to see how many aliens there are. If there's only one, it automatically treats it as a win. Notice how even the smallest ship in TFTD doesn't necessarily come standard with only 1 unit, like the small scout in UFO? Perhaps the team responsible for TFTD thought 1 alien just wasn't worth the bother. It isn't, but you should at least get the satisfaction of killing it yourself after spending all that time lovingly selecting your entire squad's means of death and destruction. - NKF -------------------- Current Avatar Source: A custom GM-Striker. Wow! I never saw that happen before. Chalk this up to not playing TFTD enough. Just one question: Does this happen in UFO/X-COM CE also, or is it limited to TFTD? I thought I read that it does a while back.

I've seen it less then a dozen times. Once that window popped up, then after that came the window that says Live alien died due to lack of alien containment. Never knew you could get a live ones outta that sorta crash
I've never seen it in UFO though, which is weird cause some of those crashed Small Scouts look like nothing, not even a lobsterman, could of walked outta. At one crash site the ship had onlt 2 walls, and 3 ceiling panels left. The rest was rubble. |

Weird. I never realized I was so privileged to be one of few that get's this even so often. I get it on average of about once maybe twice for every 5 hours I spend on a game. (On estimate)
I am personally glad and grateful for each one. One occasion I was shaking a bit since I was about to fight some Tasoth's before recieving that message... Never went through a Tasoth mission without losing a man or two. -------------------- Strong Bob's random Star Trek quote of the year:

The only time I got anything remotely like that was when I went to a terror site back in UFO. The first turn, I get my men set up outside the skyranger, and then the turn ends in a victory, with a whooping score of 0... but yeah, it's always nice when the aliens all die in a crash.

NickAragua:
When you go to a Terror Site in UFO, there is a certain probability on how many civilians are there. I just finished a statistical survey of 2000 random Terror Sites in UFO and found that there is a 96.05% chance that you will see anywhere from 8-16 civilians there. The other 3.95% is reserved for the somewhat rare cases where you could see anywhere from 0-7 civilians. Yes, I said 0 civilians at a terror site! While very rare (I found they happen 0.3% of the time), 0 civilian Terror Sites can, and do, happen! So what does this have to do with this discussion you may ask? To gather 2000 data points I would go into a Terror Site and then abort without doing anything. Then a screen would come up giving a score and how many civilians were killed by the aliens. A few times, when I aborted, I had a score screen of 0 - it made no mention of civilians. (Incedentially, when I later played through a mission where the score was 0, there were no civilians there). So a score screen of 0 for a Terror Site has nothing to do with aliens dying in a crash. (A Terror Site is NOT a crash site, because a UFO is not on the map in a Terror Mission). A score screen of 0 is actually the coveted 0 civilian Terror Mission! ----------- Recently I shot down a small sub. The crash was so horrendous that nothing was left of the USO! No walls, no hulls, nothing! There were some dead alien bodies laying inside, and one live alien alive outside! That's gotta suck for that alien. He probably thought "Hurray! I survived the crash" Unfortunately for him, he had 2 fatal wounds, and no weapons because he dropped them from the morale loss of his friends. So I just sat there watching that poor thing until he died! Always fun to have a mission where you don't do anything and still win! -------------------- QUOTE(JellyfishGreen) Zombie: Empirical data's your only man, when formulating a research plan. I can recall a large number of occasions when a single alien survived a crash in TFTD. Problem was, they always camped on those giant pipe platforms. (which are hard to see unless you try to blow the crap out of it.
One occasion I spent a good two days trying to find. (I mentioned it on this very board) Ended up being on the said platform. Makes me wonder why structures don't collapse in on themselves when the base is destroyed... Would save a lot of effort. Works wonders in Apocalypse. -------------------- Strong Bob's random Star Trek quote of the year:

I belive what happes is the tactical kills off the alines based on where they spawn. in this case I had 1 alien set to spawn in the craft.. well the he was just too close to the IBA when it exploded
If he had been taged to spawn outside the craft I still would have had to hunt him down. -Blade FireLight -------------------- QUOTE Combat is very simple, there is a first place and second place, second place is laying face down in the mud, sometimes, so is first place. |

It's like Blade says: If the computer spawns an alien inside the craft, and you destroy the USO, most likely the alien is dead. If the alien is spawned away from the craft you probably have to search him out. I happened to be lucky. All the Aquatoids were spawned inside the the craft. When the IBA exploded there was only one "lucky" survivor!
What sucked for that Aquatoid is that even though he got lucky and survived the crash, he had 2 fatal wounds and no weapons. Bummer, dude! -------------------- QUOTE(JellyfishGreen) Zombie: Empirical data's your only man, when formulating a research plan. tsk, tsk. youth these days
hint hint: im a youth. well anyways, i get that message every so often. mainly with the very small ufos' because i change all craft to DUP torps and AJAX torps right at the start. v.small USO's need gas canons go crash, other wise the other weaps are too powerful and destroy it. -------------------- 011110010110111101110101
