....have an odd preference for 'old' technology?
As in, the weapons you can buy. I seem to have developed a particular affection for the humble Gas Cannon and its phosphor shells, and I will admit to taking some kind of perverse pleasure in setting things on fire - and if that happens to be an alien soldier then Oh yea.... And they make lots of light. Yes. Thats why i like them! (Does this make me some kind of pyro-sadist? |

I have a preference for the old laser rifles...
Yeah, I know, the programmers were too lazy to let you keep the things. But it would have been nice. The longest, most annoying missions always seem to be on land... -------------------- |

I'm going with the Gas Cannons too. Compared with practically every other purchaseable weapon in the game, it's got an impressive amount of upgrades over its parellel in UFO. Most of the other weapons are nerfed in one way even if some of them may be slightly better than their parellels.
As for the GC, I can't say too much about the AP shells, but the GC with HE shells is an absolutely brilliant weapon that'll kill practically anything given enough shells. Even lobstermen if you are really persistent and patient. However don't count on wiping the whole map of lobstermen with just GC's. That's silliness. The GC is also the only reliable means of dispensing phosphor rounds on land. And as fire works better on land than it does in water, it's quite a nice combination. I don't use it for lighting as much as a means of slowly roasting snipers in port missions or anywhere I can trap an alien in an enclosed space. Usually to set fire to the third level of the rail station with the mine carts. Absolutely hate that area as there's almost always a sniper up near the windows. The above two reasons keep the GC a mainstay from the start. Even when I'm well into the game I tend to keep a token GC for when it's needed. A couple of honourable mentions include the torpedo launcher and magna-pack explosive. The torpedo launcher because it packs a punch despite being underwater-only, and the magna-pack is the poor man's sonic pulser until they are in plentiful supply. - NKF -------------------- Current Avatar Source: A custom GM-Striker. QUOTE The longest, most annoying missions always seem to be on land... Or boats Note to self: Upgrade current weapons soonest, Harpoons and G.Pistols don't really work on Lobsters Lol. My current game is weird. I went for all the armour and new subs before I started on weapons just for a change. It's..... Interesting to say the least. |

I've been a faithful follower of the X-com games since they started...contrary to most people, I prefer TFTD over EU/UD. I've always been a fan of underwater warfare...TFTD definitely hit the nail on the head. You are correct though, although I DO enjoy the UFO games (currently re-playing Afterlight...love the graphics :-P) they just don't compete with the X-com games. Even UFO:ET, which is as close to XCOM as you can get now adays, just doesn't feel right. I played TFTD as the first game....
Sometimes late in game I would do fights between aquanauts with underpowered weapons and armor and see who can win, or coelhtankwhatever fights. I also love TFTD weaponry on ufo:2000 I seriously tried to use dart guns and harpoons, but I love the HEAVY GAUSS most! heavy gauss sound FTW! I still remeber my first ecounter vs lobsterman : I emtied many heavy gauss clips before one went down, I took it to the ship and escaped, and hoped a new lobster armor will become avaible! Also, of about 10-15 runs, this was the only time I saw triscenes with lobsterman. It happened on a second month! RNG went crazy. |

I think I did the same thing when I encountered Lobstermen for the first time. You would think that X-COMs scientists would be able to replicate Lobbie armor with all the massive resistances, but no. They keep maintaining that armor is different from natural resistance to everything which means we'd need to genetically modify our soldiers to function in the same manner. - Zombie -------------------- QUOTE(JellyfishGreen) Zombie: Empirical data's your only man, when formulating a research plan.
