I need a good (or decent, at least) download manager, since my IP resets every 12 hours and I lose connection, unless I'm downloading something via P2P or Bittorrent I will lose the download, can anyone suggest a good one?

GetRight.

Not only does this program support resuming, it can automatically dial-up your connection, shut down when done, schedule daily downloads, download up to 4 segments per server (maximum of 10 simultaneous downloads per file provided there are at least 3 mirrors), finds said mirrors, supports torrenting, uses HTTP/FTP downloads to boost torrenting speed, has a podcast downloader, supports MD5/SHA1 hashing, supports proxies, supports unique logins, supports browser cookies, is FilePlanet friendly (if you can find one that doesn't use the DLM, but you'll have to temporarily disable it during the wait period) and has games to play. I'm not kidding on that last bit, though it's nothing you won't find on MSN or GameHouse.

Shareware, unlimited trial period, non-intrusive. One-time registration payment, registered for life. Been using it since 1-point-something and have never regretted it.

Download.com (filtered to freeware and Win XP, user rating)
tucows.com (filtered by freeware)
SourceForge.net

I only use freeware / opensource programs, and those sites are good for finding such programs (with the notable exception of Windows)

GetRight still exists? That's a blast from the past... I remember that from my days on dialup, back in 1997...

I still use it with my DSL connection. Say I decide to browse a movie streaming site... I've got it set to automatically grab all FLV files it comes across. I just have to hit Ok to each video as they come up and they all get queued and saved to my drive one after the other.

GetRight taking too much bandwidth? It's all good, you can stop the downloads and let 'em all rip when you're doing something else, or throttle the speed to something less intrusive.

Not to mention the GetRight browser, which finds every link on a page and allows you to start them as downloads in bulk. Very quick way to grab entire galleries of just about any type.

EXACTLY! you already listed 2 ways and one of which is free. i never had problems with BitTorrent. especially that new one that looks more like an expansive file sharing program.

if you're using that short stubby bar version of BitTorrent no wonder you want more.

i can't recall where i got mine but... if it's the old BitTorrent it's the wrong one.

BitTorrent is not a download manager, and was not what I wanted to use since I needed to download UFO: ET from MatrixGames and bittorrent is not a possibility.

Anyhow, thanks for the suggestions, all smile.gif

Give GetRight a try. You've got nothing to lose.

It even minimizes into the system tray.

Come to think of it, I sometimes use downTHEMall as a plugin in Firefox. It lets you right click a page, choose "Download all", and it will grab all files based on your filter settings (video for instance). I've been very happy with it!

@Yanlin: This is a http download from Matrix, and they have no torrents available. But I agree that torrents are nice where they provide it.
