The best way to find alien bases is to follow these steps:

1. Check the graphs. Find a region on the planet that has shown a severe increase in alien activity (the graph for the region will skyrocket).

2. Launch an empty Skyranger (never know when your base will be attacked, leave the soldiers home) to the area. The Skyranger doesn't use precious Elerium, and has a much longer range than the Interceptor. Simply have it patrol in the region that has had the increase for about a half an hour. If no base shows up, then move the Skyranger to a different area in the same region and patrol.

3. If no base shows up, it could be that the graphs were just showing a massive UFO presence in the area, but this is is rare. Usually if there is a huge increase in alien activity, it means an alien base.

You can also find alien bases very easily if you follow supply ships. If you ever pick one up, follow it (do a standoff if you are using a Firestorm+, as the Interceptor and the Skyranger can't match the supply ship's speed) and wait until it lands. Then patrol the area right next to the supply ship, and you are bound to find a base.

If you have a hyperwave decoder, it makes it a lot easier. You can also tell whether the supply ship is on an Alien Supply mission, or Alien Base. If it is on an Alien Base mission, you'll want to stop it immediately, just to avoid the whole base thing.

Or don't destroy them, as the case may be. smile.gif

In addition to the above, you can also get a bit of help from these mysterious "agents" that will locate the base for you. However, this is often the result of a bad monthly performance score.

I had the same problem and got lots of tips here:

What I did was stop shooting down ships that were detected. A week or two later the Battleship and several others appeared suddenly and plunked down a base in Siberia. I've been raiding it ever since smile.gif
