With all the Star Wars games being released over the years, you'd think that one of them would actually be good. Tacticular Cancer had a look at the latest incarnation called Star Wars: Empire at War, which is a combination of strategic gameplay and tactical space and land battles. Find out if this intriguing mix of gameplay elements work out as well as it could at Tacticular Cancer.

Not read the review as it's past 1am, and technically 2am as the clocks have just gone forward tongue.gif But I love this game, its the first one I've bought at the obscene brand new price for a long long time! It's fantastic fun playing imperials and just buying lots and lots of the biggest baddest units you can get hold of to crush the puny rebel alliance tongue.gif The movie mode is good too, especially in space battles. It means that once you reach a point where victory is certain you can switch to a cinematic view and watch the rest of the action unfolding just like you were watching an extension of the original films! There are lots of official and unofficial mods coming out for this including some warhammer 40k, lots more star wars mods and starship troopers to name a few. So there's another review for you, go and buy EaW today!

Unless you can only afford one game in which case you should probably go and buy Oblivion wink.gif

If Empire at War is good I must be playing it wrong. I love the Star Wars Universe, but out of the box this game seems so lightweight. I've only played the Rebel side (twice) in the Empire at War scenario, but the AI seems so easy to beat. Maybe CIV4 has spoiled me, but I expect the AI to beat me up a few times before I beat it.

I never had any problems with the AI either, must admit. I played Imperial though so I think that's kind of the way it should be wink.gif Must confess I played one of the mini-campaign things as the rebels and that was very easy, though Darth Vader and Emporor Palpatine did whoop my arse something rotten. They took out Obi Wan, Han Solo and Chewbacca before a couple of reinforcement tanks finished them both off!
