Does researching a UFO multiple times (eg, researching the Terror Ship multiple times) from captured Engineers reduce damage suffered by a crashed UFO, allowing you to recover more?

The short of it: No.

The amount of damage done to a UFO that has been shot down is random every time you start combat in the battlescape. That is to say, if you saved just before the combat, went in examined the wreckage and then reloaded and repeated this several number of times, you'll see any number of variations of the extent of damage done to the UFO.

For example, the medium scout. It doesn't matter if it was shot down with dual plasmas or a single standard cannon or whether you have the schematics or not, the damage will range anywhere between being completely intact all the way to the UFO practically being turned into a flying carpet with a few walls.

No, I don't think so. I mean just because you reaserched it doesn't mean the guns do less damage and your interceptors aren't snipers so they can't always hit "the weakest spot".

Impressive guys. You both posted on exactly the same time! grin.gif
Fullborg, are you sure you can research the same craft more than once? In my experience once you've completed all of the engineer interogations then it's no longer available in the research screen. Even if you captured one in a mission...

I've had UFOs come up more than once as a result of interrogating captured Engineers - that's why I asked.

To my knowledge, if you research an engineer, it won't always give you  the ship it came from. Do you have an older version of the game?

How do you know? :music:

Heh... that smily doens't look like what's it supposed to be, on this background... grin.gif
