I've been playing S2 for a while now, with no problems except sound cutting out. I just got an Audigy 2 ZS as I had some other sound problems, and S2 worked fine with it. Just yesterday tho, I went to launch it and it just hung at a black screen, rapidly switching resolutions. I can hear the relays inside clicking away, and the only way to stop it is to do a hard reset. I had no problems with this setup before, it just started for no reason. I can, occasionaly, get it to run, but when I do it won't let me change any video settings except for resolution (they are all set to 'Custom', changing them to 'High' or whatever just sets them back to Custom. Oddly, Lighting is set to 'Low' and greyed out).
Hardware: Vid: Asus V9950 (FX5900) 128 MB, default clock values (used to have a GF4 4400, S2 ran fine on it) MB: Asus A7N8X Deluxe, 512 3200 MB RAM Sound: SB Audigy 2 ZS CPU: Athlon XP 3000+ (Reg 2.1Ghz, OC'd to 2.3) Software: XP Pro SP1 Nvidia Referance drivers (56.64) Latest Creative Drivers (5.12.6.402) Oh, also, when I check the console at startup, it identifies my card as 'Radeon 3 class' or something like that. Is that normal? I mean the game has a giant "DESIGNED FOR NVIDIA" logo on startup, they can't even ID my NV card? So far, I have re-installed Vid drivers, sond drivers, and the game. No problems in other apps. It's a shame this game gives me so much grief, I've put up with more problems in it then any other I can remember... |

The Radeon card shouldn't be a problem as it does accept them ( it actually prefers the card to the one I'm using - Nvid. Geforce2 MX ). It sounds to me like a graphics problem; have you tryed changing your desktop resoultion beforehand.
I know it doesn't saound like anything but sometimes when they bothe have the same resolution things tend to click and work anyways. |

That's what i tried to set them to (1152x864x32 is my desktop resolution, and what I used to use for S2.) I finally got S2 to load by deleting my config file., but every time I set the resolution above 1024 the game locks up again. Also, my Texture quality is stuck on 'Custom', and I have dark edges around any part of the map that is illuminated. The Radeon card shouldn't be a problem as it does accept them ( it actually prefers the card to the one I'm using - Nvid. Geforce2 MX ) I'm confused... I have an Nvidia Geforce FX, but S2 seams to think that it is a Radeon. This is really pissing me off, I used to have a Geforce 4 Ti and S2 seamed to play better with _that_. Is there some way I can force S2 to see my card as a Geforce FX? |
