I'm using windows ME at the moment and i've already installed the sql program i need to get the editor working. Problem is, everytime i run the editor, it won't load up. Instead, after about 30 seconds, it gives me a OLE DB error message. I've tried poking around everywhere and i can't find a way to get it to work. Is it my OS thats incompatible? I've seen that most other people using the editor use 2k or winxp.

this is the worst editor ever just for its reliance on mssql. what the hell were they thinking?!? there is/will be NO mod community just for this small snag alone, at least in the usa where it counts!

That's interesting logic you've presented there. What you're saying is that the designers of Silent Storm created the entire game with the worst editor ever. If that's the case, they did a pretty impressive job considering their limitations. I wonder if they knew it was the worst editor ever while they were using it?
"Geez, Bill, how can we use this thing day in and day out? I know we made it and all, but boy is it ever a bitch to use." Alternately, they could have just shipped a product without showing people how they did it, or providing any means for people to mess with it. Modders have had it worse. Trust me. I have no patience for the finer points of design, but I've seen a few of the hoops people have had to jump through for the sake of mod design. If someone set up the whole game this way, someone else can mod it, and it's that simple. Maybe it's not either of us, but it can obviously be done, and someone will more than likely do it. There wouldn't be any posts in the modding forums here if they weren't planning on it. -------------------- Since you're crazy, can I drive? - Max, Sam & Max: Culture Shock

QUOTE Instead, after about 30 seconds, it gives me a OLE DB error message. Oops, I forgot to actually address the issue. It's timing out. Either the SQL server is installed but isn't actually running, or the editor isn't finding it and connecting to it for some reason. Make sure the SQL server has been started, and that it's on the default port (1433? I forget). -------------------- Since you're crazy, can I drive? - Max, Sam & Max: Culture Shock

I plugged a 4 star review for this game, I enjoy it. but the editor is awful! Why? What percent of people (like me) are clueless to ms network stuff? ALOT! Really, ive used about 50 game editors to mod around and this is the only one I cant even setup! Perhaps the powers of the editor are hefty enough to import everything from sounds to textures to scripts, I wouldnt know cuz im staring at odbc errors and login probs for stuff I never covered in class. Its dissapointing for sure, and looking at the lack of mods anywhere, im not alone in this.
A new faq should be on how just to setup the damn sql and db stuff. There were only 2 posts I found helpful, but not enough. ive gone beyond my 1 hour investment time, most people wouldnt give it that long. |
