> Help: Map starts to go black on laptop

I just bought Silent Storm in the UK, but it does not work properly on my laptop.

The game installs fine, movies are fine but in the tutorial, as I move around, spaces within the buildings often blacken out so I can only see my recruit and nothing else (eg could not see the box with the rifle). If I go to options and chance something about the graphics and come back to the game, I get a temporary reprieve and can see things fully again. But gradually they black out again as I move around. I am totally not technical, but it seems like my computers memory has trouble storing all the info about the map as I move around.

My specs: It is a newish one which I think meets the recommended specs: an Acer Travelmate 803Lci; it has a Mobility 9000 graphics card with 64MB RAM; it has 512 MB RAM on the computer; it has a 1.6 Centrino processor; there is no problem of diskspace.

I've turned all the graphics options to their lowest values.

Any advice? It seems a great game, but I don't think it is playable on my machine right now.

What is the 'Mobility 9000' ? Is it a NVidia or ATI chip? There's some option not in the game's graphics menu that can be accessed using the Graphics config tool we developed (you'll find it at s2hq.com )

I'd suggest trying some of those options. Also, don't hesitate to contact Nival, they've been really helpful with tech problems before.

Thanks, Biggles - it is an ATI chip for laptops.

I picked up an idea on the nival forum that solved the problem:

In the config.cfg, I set

gfx_swvertexprocess=1.00

and now everything is fine.
