There are lots of stuff that need experimenting with and you modders must have made discoveries others coould benifit from. As you know Fnurg and me are writing on the spec page, and a few of you have helped us along the road. At least i think that if we reformatted all that into a wiki it would be easier for all of us to contribute.
I dont have the resources for running one, do you? -------------------- // sigget (sigget@europe.com) my tools and docs: http://www.geocities.com/sigget2003

I was thinking of adding a Modding Notes page to the ALPine web page with the stuff I've learnt, putting it all in one place it a better idea though. I don't want to put that much traffic on the web page though since it's free hosting and would probably get shut down.

A wiki is a website that you can change.
Its been a while since we updated the specs now, we've had trouble finding a good structure for it, that wont change with a wiki though, and we really dont have the time to document everything ourselves. So i think a wiki could be the answer. The official docs arent too far away now but i doubt they will cover everything, so i think an effort like this could still be useful. -------------------- // sigget (sigget@europe.com) my tools and docs: http://www.geocities.com/sigget2003

Well, I have my last exam Thursday, so after that I think I can fix it. And does it require that much bandwidth? Anyway, I have unlimited on my own server, so yes, I think I have the bandwidth
So, how exactly is this site going to work? You can log in, and add pages/sections and so on? I will need fairly specific guidelines on creating it. -------------------- |

Ive never used a wiki so i dont know what can be done. But what i was thinking was that those that are active modders get accounts on the wiki and can change the contents of the pages there, its gonna be tough to get a good structure on the site, i recommend we use the one fnurg and i have made for the ufo spec (its not up yet).
As long as we're a little restrictive of who gets to change the contents i think we can allow it to be changed in any way possible. -------------------- // sigget (sigget@europe.com) my tools and docs: http://www.geocities.com/sigget2003

Like maybe allowing only evaluated modders permission to change the wiki?

Hmm, we could in fact utilize the forum software for this to begin with. I make a forum that only a modder group I create can modify, and we decide on a structure for the information there. At least until I can get a real wiki online. What do you think?

A list of posts would be hard to use as a documentation. Or do you mean a forum with a single post for each 'chapter' that we all edit?

Yes, that's what I mean. And then each post would be "under chapters". So in other words, the first post has an index for the specific subject, and each index item is linked to the post later in the subject. Think it may work well temporarily at least...
