Yes! Indeed! Good news has been received over here, so I'm freed up again. 5 New pieces of fanfic up! Good good!
Firstly, Benjamin Ditch has released chapters 2 and 3 of Vengance Runner. Nice to see that the people are continuing with their stories! Secondly, Patrik Howell has released Chapter 4 and a Glossary for your viewing pleasure, in his story, First Alien War. Continuing this story, which could one day rival the great André's Unknown Menace! And lastly, but not least, Skonar has written some Apocalypse FanFic! A thouroughly interesting piece, this is only the first chapter of many to come, setting up the scene nicely to what could be the best Apoc fanfic in recent times! So! Get your ass in gear, and read those stories! -------------------- I suffer from Arachibutyrophobia, fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth.

In the Glossary of Mr. Howell's First Alien War, he lists a few inconsistencies.
One of them is easily answerable: Bullet-resistant material such as Kevlar can indeed be cut by a sharp knife (or arrowhead). Kevlar threads are very strong and will resist snapping. This and the tight weave allows them to catch a blunt bullet at a fair velocity without allowing it to penetrate the human wearing the vest. Teflon coatings are more likely to allow the bullet to force its way between the threads. But the threads can be cut, much like packing tape is hard to snap but splits easily once you get a small tear or cut started. -------------------- The deadly Lobsterman threat was finally countered by melee combat with power tools. -ufopaedia.org

Finally got around to creating an account. Hey, how are ya.
Thanks to Jellyfish for clarifying the entire bullet-resistance thing; I try, hopefully successfully, to bluff my way into sounding like a knowledgeable military expert when in actual fact most of my information about warfare is gleaned from less-than-trustworthy sources such as movies and the news. Any genuine or accurate technical term or function is either fluke or the work of Draken-Savage, my 'volunteered' proofreader. Feel free to point out any other problems, issues, or whatever you find; I'm always happy to try to improve my work. |

Don't tell anyone, but I'm not really an expert either. I've an interest in the subject matter and a fair grasp of science, but I'm always open to correction. Say, by someone who actually has fired bullets at kevlar rather than just watching the Discovery channel special like I did.
Oh yeah, and I liked the first chapter. Very Tom Clancy. -------------------- The deadly Lobsterman threat was finally countered by melee combat with power tools. -ufopaedia.org
