First try

Mwahaha! Finally, Dosbox has improved enough that X-COM Apocalypse runs flawlessly here. So I've started my first runthrough, on Medium.

First impression: wow, armour from the get-go which actually works! Only things able to take me out so far are brainsuckers (of course, argh) and a Sirius cultist with a freak lucky shot with a pistol. Vs the only unwounded gal in the squad, of course.

I definitely feel under siege. Day two, and my base is attacked. And I'm unsure how my ammo stores will hold up in the long run (= a few weeks? Months? How long is a usual game?)

Probably should get less explosives-happy ... very little of the cultists' remains was usable for anything.

Taking out bits of the city with stray missiles is indeed very cool. And the odd message saying the police has blown up a random taxi. Civilians certainly live dangerously here

This is fun!

I'm having a blast (literally) playing this one. Oodles of fun compared to Aftermath.

And just now, the beastmen stopped fooling around and brought out the heavy artillery. Not the best night for bringing a level 2 rookie along to cydonia. No heavy suits, no heavy weapons apart from a few grenades.

My major toughness, major stability guy might win me the day, still. But I'm knee-deep in shit and loving it!

(Keep the spoilers to yourself, please. It's my first runthrough and I'm mostly unspoiled.)

PS. Love the small touches. Territories being renamed in their honor if you lose a veteran soldier, for example.
