Quick question,

Does the Total Rebalance mod also alter the number of aliens you face in each mission (i.e. there are a lot more of them?)

I only ask because in my second mission I'm up against 6 Rets with laser rifles and they are tearing my squad apart before I can get anywhere near them sad.gif I've tried every tactical gambit I know including ambusing them, trying to dodge incoming fire, all to no avail. I haven't got enough long range projectile guns to take them out! Argh!

I certainly don't remember anything that tough this early on in the game when playing the vanilla version.

As far as I'm aware I haven't install the Martian assault mod that comes bundled with the total rebalance mod, so I don't think it's that either. It's the like the worst parts of UFO:AM after the russian mission and all the rets appear with rocket launchers.........

Well hello to a forum I haven't posted in for a very long time...........

After an eventful 12 months which has seen life getting in the way of playing much games - moving in with my girlfriend, getting engaged, that type of thing - (Although I do seem to have fitted extensive sessions of TF2, Cod4, Crysis and Sins of a Solar Empire in there somewhere) I'm looking to play something more in depth. I've played the Beyond the Sword expansion to Civ IV to death now (well, almost) and seeing as there is a dearth of good tactical turn based games out there these days I though I'd come back to Afterlight and give it another run through.

So the question is what are the best mods to play? Personally I found the original game fairly well balanced - until you get to the lightening ball launchers at the end and storm the beasties base - so although Shadow warriors Total Rebalance mod looks good I'm not sure that it's entirely what I'm after.

Is the advanced missions mod fully operational? That looks like exactly the thing that I'd be after - so long as it's compatible with the mod that allows expedition armour trading (OK I know that's very minor in the great scheme of things but I found having to use the rets running around in their pyjamas extremely annoying) then this would be fine. I'll take any other recommendations there might be as well wink.gif

Other than that, erm, hello to everyone here again wink.gif

OK,

Number of problems with some of things I should be able to research but can't. First off is the acid grenade. I've tried everything in the book here but for some reason the 90+ beastmen acid genades I have in my stores appear to be invisible. I've tried the taking them on a mission and dropping them thing, all to no avail sad.gif

Having allied with the Expedition forces (Don't even start me on them not trading any decent armour!) I only have the rebels to contend with. I was under the impression that I would be able to to run come capture missions on them get get some of the other research pre-requisites but nothing happening there - all the mission are destroy the group or destroy an artifact. Nothing on capturing any of them.

As for Beastmen, I think I have interrogated every class but not all the research options have come out of them. All the capture missions now seem to be for normal beastmen soldiers - this doesn't seem to make any difference! One I'm not sure about is a Beastman "Commander" but I guess this would be a chief? I've interrogated one of them!

I've been through the various research trees available and as far as I can tell I've met the pre-requisites for a lot of technologies (inc. ninja suit, advanced terraforming etc) but I've got zip in available research.

Any suggestions? I'm a bit stuck as some of it I think I need for later in the game..............

OK.

So 13 years ago I went to university and one evening at a mate's house we got drunk and a bit high, and he started playing some game on his PC. You've guessed it, it was X-COM. One year later I got my own PC (handy things, Student loans) and it was the first game I'd bought since we had Elite on our familie's old Acorn electron about 10 before that.....

I loved it. Played it for years, couldn't get enough of it. Then the usual happens, I left uni, had to get a job and gave my PC to my brother so he could finish his Masters degree. XCOM vanaished into long cherished memories.

Spin forward to 4 years ago and I bought myself a new PC. Got some excellent games for it - Half-Life, Quake Arena, Civilisation and so on, but I was always hankering for some deeply satisfying turn based strategy that only X-COM could provide. Various attempts at downloads from the internet failed, I could never get it to work. Silent Storm came and made up for this loss, and I was beside myself in anticipation for UFO: Aftermath only to be bitterly disappointed with it. I just didn't like it and gave up after the difficultly jumped to downright impossible after the russian mission.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I've been using these forums for the best part of 2 yand a half years now. In all that time I've always concentrated in the Silent Storm forum and only given cursory glances to the others blush.gif

And then on Sunday, I clicked on the thread marked "Downloading X-COM". I followed the link, clicked the buttons and got the game.

It works. no crashes, it boots up fine and after 8 years I can finally play it again.

I just wanted to say...... Thanks grin.gif
