News posting has now been opened up to anyone with an account on our forums, much in the style of how things are done at EvilAvatar.
No, we've not gone crazy - we'd just like to give our members the opportunity to post about news relating to one of the games we cover or strategy gaming in general. What you need to do: If you've got a news article that you think should be posted on our site, head on over to the relevant news forum (there's one in the StrategyCore section, and one in each of the Games sections as well). Take a moment to read the guidelines in the topic pinned at the top of the news forum. If you're still unsure as to how to lay out a news topic, take a look at some of the others that have already been posted for inspiration. Once you've read that, post a new topic as you normally would. Remember to follow the guidelines and, once you're done, post it. What we do: Your topic won't appear immediately - it will be put into a moderation queue for a member of staff to check it through before we make it "live" on the site. We may tweak it here and there, or add some screenshots if we think it'll enhance the article, but it'll still be your article with your name at the top. Please don't be offended if we get in touch with you and ask that you make alterations - we just have to thoroughly check things before they appear on the homepage of the site. We won't get in touch unless it's absolutely neccessary, and if you've followed the guidelines then you should be alright. Above all, don't let any of the above put you off. It's a quick and painless process, gets your name on our homepage and helps us out along the way.

The interview we announced back in September 2007 the team behind UFO: Cydonias Fall has finally arrived!
This extensive chat with the dev team covers various aspects of the game and the development process with over 30 questions, and if that wasn't enough we've also got the following goodies for you as well:

A talented development company called Nightbird Games are in the process of remaking the classic game UFO: Enemy Unknown (that's X-COM: UFO Defense to those in the US) under the title UFO: Cydonia's Fall
QUOTE The game will be in full 3d and high resolution textures for the best gaming experience. It will also pack really high quality sound and music. When entering tactical combat you will have the ability to choose either isometric-overview mode, camera mode or first-person mode, the isometric-overview is like you know it from the original UFO: Enemy Unknown, it's just in 3d the same goes for camera mode it's just freely rotateable, the first-person mode is a bit more intense mode where you will encounter the alien forces as if you were one of the soldiers! The team are doing a fantastic job with modelling our beloved alien foe and faithfully recreating the look of the original game right down to the Geoscape and other interfaces, but are looking for more people with the following skills - 3d Artists, Animators, GUI Artists, Concept Artists and Movie Artists. If you can help with any of these roles, head on over to the UFO CF jobs page. Never ones to miss an opportunity, StrategyCore will be conducting an exclusive interview with the UFO CF team soon, so keep checking back regularly for updates!

Done! Complete! Fin!
That's right folks, the system is ready to run once again! I can't promise that everything will work perfectly first time, but starting new battles and matches, adding new players, viewing details, changing you preferences and so on all seem to work fine. As mentioned on the Unity homepage, I've wiped all old stats, battles and players from the system. This is cecause many of the players from days gone by may not wish to play again, and also because I'm mean and want everyone to start form a rank of Private There are some requirements before this tourney can be started up again though - firstly you must have a copy of the game. Secondly, I have stillto work out whether this thing will run fine with the last version of TSX I remember using or whether anything else needs to be sorted out first. As such, can those of you who have the game (to avoid confusion, this is the "Email Games - X-COM" title from Hasbro, and not the original "UFO: Enemy Unknown/UFO Defense" title developed by Microprose) and wish to play in the league send me a private message with your name, game name and email address and I'll get you all added to the system once we're good to go. All those who played in teh old league will receive an email shortly

Well I dragged this topic up since I figured that it was easy enough adding the new UFO ET section and forums (well done to Zombie on adding/editing the page content), so it might be a good time to re-visit the idea of adding a section for this game too.
There is a poll at the top of this topic - please cast your votes and reasons why. If you think we should have a section, would you like to help out in some way (such as writing a little content along the lines of an introduction page, some game guides, hints and tips etc) or if you're already a player do you want to possibly help out by moderating a forum or two if we add some LSN forums. If you don't think it's a good idea, let us know why as well (aside from the fact that the game has a monthly/quarterly/annual subscription that is I'd also like to know how many LSN players there actually are here, so speak up if you play it please. Thanks all! |
