Project Xenocide began as a one-man project, a thesis for a Computer Science degree. Federico Andrés Lois (Red Knight) posted a request for artists to help him in his project in various X-COM forums. On October 9th, 2002, he posted in the xcomufo.com forums, owned by Micah Gibson (Micah). Several members of the board found Red Knight's project to be worth the effort, so discussions began as to how to recreate X-COM with modern technology. After Red Knight's thesis was done and presented, Project Xenocide could truly be born, as the code could now be shared; several members started working on the various aspects of the remake. Shortly afterwards, it was clear that some organization was needed, so the Project divided itself in departments: Artwork, Programming, Sound and Creative Text. Each department was assigned a department head. It was also clear that a leader was needed; after some discussions and voting; Red Knight was chosen as the Project Leader.
After years of work, Project Xenocide is still moving forward, maybe slowly, but surely, every new member helps the Project advance and help achieve our goal of producing a real successor to X-COM.
